Killer Cover Designs

Parody of Rolling Stone MagazineWhether I’m shopping on 34th Street at lunch or running to catch the bus in Hoboken before work, I am always taking in all the ads around me. So last week while I was waiting to cross the street it’s no surprise I watched every bus go by and saw as many movie posters, vacation offers, and television series ads as I could. One caught my eye, but as the bus whizzed by I couldn’t put my finger on why. It was just an ad for a magazine with the guy from Six Feet Under (Michael C. Hall) on it, no big deal right? Well it wasn’t till later in the week that I started seeing him on what felt like every magazine ad all over the city.

Are We Blind to Our $ Design?

US CurrencyEveryday we are bombarded by design, some memorable, some forgettable, but have you ever stopped and looked at our currency that flows in and out of our hands everyday? Maybe you noticed in the last couple years one of the most exciting changes, the addition of color. This design change was driven by security reasons and wanting to deter counterfeiters. Read more »

Design in Sports

brew.jpgOne of my favorite things to do as a designer is to make a logo. I like the concept of telling the story of a company, or business in a simple graphic.

Growing up in Brooklyn and being a huge sports fan, I remember talking sports with my cousins one day, and one of them pointed out to me that the Milwaukee Brewers logo was more than just a glove. When he broke it down, and said that it was really an “M” and “B”, I was amazed and hooked. It blew my mind that this simple image told the whole story of its franchise in a subtle but genius way. Signage at its Best

SignsWhen traveling abroad I often find a new culture to be overwhelming because of language barriers or social norms. This is where good visual communication through signage without any letterforms or words can help introduce and immerse me into the culture. Signs warn me of any potential dangers by displaying traffic laws and showing me what bird or animal to watch for. It also tells me about their creativity and even their sense of humor. Web 2.0 expo in NYC – WOW!

I had the fortune of being able to carve out 4 days from the office to attend the Web 2.0 conference at the Javitz Center in NYC. Come to think of it, this was the most amount of time that I left the office in a non-vacation function in 17 years.

Was it worth it?? DEFINITELY.
